Norton antivirus does not support the repair feature

Create tgctlsi.dll and tgctlsr.dll files:

  1. In Windows Explorer, go to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder.
  2. Right-click on a blank area on the Right Hand pane and Select New Text Document, which is inside New.
  3. Rename the file created to tgctlsi.dll.
  4. Repeat step 2.
  5. Rename the file created to tgctlsr.dll
  6. Close Windows Explorer and check for the issue.

If the issue was being encountered during the starting of the computer, please restart the computer and check for the issue.

Note : This is Just a suggestion it may or may not Fix the problem but still worth a try

How To Run PreScan

  1. Boot to safe mode with Networking
  2. Download Intelligent Updater 
  3. Create a folder named Virusdef
  4. Disable system restore
  5. Unshare your hard drive (c$ and stuff)
  6. Download prescan from http://svss.host.sk/
  7. Extact the virus Definition uisng the following command in the Run box : “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\20060731-016-i32.exe” /dump C:\Virusdef
  8. Run Pre-scan file now

  1. Use Administrator account

  2. Use SYMNRT and SYMMSICLEANUP.reg and MSIFIX.bat

  3. Use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

  4. Unregistered Msiexec.exe 

  5. Renamed msiexec.exe to msiexec.old from C:\Windows 

  6. Delete the following
        c:\D & S\Allusers\AD\Symantec
        c:\PF\Norton & Symantec folders
        c:\PF\CF\SS

  7. Backup registry

  8. Delete symantec folder under HKCU\software\symantec & HKLM\software\symantec

  9. Restarted the computer

  10. Install  Windows Installer 3.1

  11. Create the Symantec folder in HKLM\Software and HKCU\Software and give full control permissions

  12. Chk  permission for Admin & System for  HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID, INTERFACE & TypeLib and  HKCR\CLSID, INTERFACE & TypeLib

  13.  Restart and Install Norton 

Viewing Web history with Norton Internet Security

Enable verbose logging

  1. Open Norton Internet Security
  2. Click Options. click Norton Internet Security
  3. On the General tab, under Logging Level, check Verbose. Click OK

To view the Web History log

  1. In the Norton Internet Security  click Statistics.
  2. In the Statistics pane, click View Logs.
  3. In the Log Viewer, under Norton Internet Security, click Web History.

A list of your visited Web sites appears in the right pane.

Error: “LU1806: LiveUpdate was not able to install any of the updates that you selected”

  1. Restart Comp and run LiveUpdate Again
  2. Find out which Update is failing
  3. If Common Client or Redirector files are failing
    1. Do a complete Manual Uninstall if the issue doesn`t fix -All profile folders, -Registry key, -Temp folder
    2. Clear the contents of c:/windows/prefetch
    3. Clear c:\windows\Installer for symantec norton and common clients files
  4. If any other updates are failing
    1. Download latest liveupdate from symantec website
    2. Clear the contents of c:\documents and settings\all user\ application data\symantec\liveupdate\download
    3. Reinstall Liveupdate
    4. Run liveudate

I cannot send or receive email using Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora or a similar program when using Norton Internet Security

  1. RUN SYMNCTS tool and check
  2. Run Live Update and check
  3. Restore default firewall rules and check
  4. Add POP3 & SMTP address in Privacy control and check.
  5. Uninstall and Reinstall the Program.

System Status window displays “Refreshing” or is blank after opening Norton

  1. Check for all Symantec services are Automatic and running. Check for Event Log service is Automatic & Running.
  2. Unregister wintrust.dll, jscript.dll, vbscript.dll. Restart the Machine and reregister wintrust.dll, jscript.dll, vbscript.dll.
  3. Download windows script 5.6 and install and open the product and check
  4. Completely uninstall the product and reinstall the product.

Download Manager does not display in full while downloading a program from the Symantec Store

You cannot Click on start or Resume buttons to control the download

Resolution 1

  1. Click once on the downlaod Manager
  2. On the keyboard, Press Tab, and then press Enter

Resolution 2

  1. Boot the system with "BASE VIDEO"

Resolution 3

  1. Remove AOL and check

Error: “Your current security settings will not allow this file to be downloaded…”

when downloading a program from the Symantec Store you get the above mentioned error.

  1. Internet option | Security Tab | Internet | Custom Level
  2. Under Download | Enable the file download option
  3. Try to Download the program again
