Recovery Console

May 19, 2006

Installation

  1. start >Run>X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcon

Removal

  1. Delete the Cmdcons folder and the Cmldr file.
  2. Edit Boot.ini file to delete only the entry for the Recovery Console and Save

Recovery Console Password

On many XP installations you can't start the Recovery Console because it won't recognize your password. This registry edit causes the Recovery Console not to ask for a password.

  1. Start | Run | Regedit
  2. go to HKLM\SW\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\ RecoveryConsole
  3. Set SecurityLevel value to 1
  4. Exit Registry and Reboot
